Capitol Island was relcad's debut for Pleasure Boat Records written mostly in the fall of 2009 and reworked through the exercise of live performance in the winter of 2010. The album has a more ambitious tone than previous works primarily because relcad lived with it for quite some time allowing for familiarity with the material before committing it to the final version. The darker moods of a wet and dark Northwest winter mix with the light of the spring in several of the tracks making them at once light-hearted and brooding.
